Makara (Sanskrit: मकर) is a sea-creature in Hindu culture. It is generally depicted as half terrestrial animal in the frontal part (stag, deer, crocodile, or elephant) and half aquatic animal in the hind part (usually a fish or seal tail, though sometimes a peacock or even a floral tail is depicted.)
It is depicted in Tibetan art as a creature with a body of a fish with arms of a sea lion and the head of an elephant with tusks.
It is also a name given to a gigantic crab and a creature whose upper-half is of a deer and whose lower-half is of a fish. Sometimes the Makara in Tibetan art is drawn as a crocodile which some cryptozoologists believe the Makara to have been. Others say that it may have been a separate creature altogether.
There is a variant of the monster which resembles a 'Sea-Goat' (half fish half goat like capricronus). It is depicted in Tibetan art as a creature with a body of a fish with arms of a sea lion and the head of an elephant with tusks.
