The Monkey-Man of New Delhi is an alleged cryptid described as an ape-like creature that terrorized the Indian capital city of New Delhi in May 2001. Eyewitness accounts of the creature, which was reported to be about four feet tall and covered in thick black hair, varied significantly but commonly included details such as the creature wearing a metal helmet, possessing metal claws, and having glowing red eyes, sometimes hidden behind goggles. The creature was attributed various mythological significances, including being an avatar of the Hindu deity Hanuman or a variant of Bigfoot. Reports of the Monkey-Man led to panic among residents, with numerous injuries reported as people fled in fear, and some incidents resulted in fatalities from falls while escaping the perceived threat. Police issued artist impressions in attempts to capture the creature, but the sightings were ultimately deemed to be products of mass hysteria rather than a real entity.
